Format: Hardback

Publisher: Harper & Brothers

My Rating: ★★★★★

Synopsis: An affectionate pig named Wilbur befriends a spider named Charlotte, who lives in the rafters above his pen. In this story of friendship, hardship, and the passing on into time, White reminds readers to open their eyes to the wonder and miracle found in the simplest of things.

So for #Cramathon, I reread Charlotte's Web, my all time favorite stand alone Children's Book. You want to know why it is my favorite? Not because of Wilbur. Wilbur is so overemotional character who can't do anything for himself. No the reason why I love this book so much is because of Charlotte. Charlotte is so real and truthful and doesn't put up with anyone's bullshit. She doesn't coddle anyone and gives the facts, even if they are hurtful and scary. Her death really got to me as a kid, and it still does.
Now that I am older, I can really appreciate the writing style and the veiled messages throughout the book. When I was younger, I didn't even realize how sexist everyone was. For pete's sake, they basically say it is okay for Fern's brother to run around, be wild, and play with animals, but since Fern is a girl she should spend her time chasing after boys... what??? It angers me so much that near the end Fern basically stops caring about the animals and wants to spend all of her time with this boy Henry.
Overall, I really enjoy this book and I will continue to read it over and over again in the future.
